Francis Mwaura is Senior Lecturer Department of Geography & Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi and Principal Associate Consultant at Habitat Planners. He is a PhD, MSc and BSc holder in tropical biogeography and has considerable experience on issues concerning the interface between society and natural heritage with emphasis on biodiversity and ecosystems in tropical areas especially Eastern Africa. Dr. Mwaura is the thematic head for the Biogeography and NRM Sections at the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies. He has supervised over 40 graduate research projects and published over 20 papers in the above areas. The author is a member of a number of associations including Africa Nature People for Nature (P4N), Heritage Conservation and Human Rights (HCHR) Network, and Eastern Africa Population, Health and Environment (PHE) Network. He was a Fellow of the 2012 African Climate Change Fellowship Programme (ACCFP) of the Climate Change Adaptation in Africa (CCAA) and the Global Change System for Analysis, Research and Training (START). Francis has undertaken a wide range of consultancy assignments for local and international clients including NEMA, KWS, KenGen, KEPHIS, NCAPD, Matt MacDonald International, Pricewaterhouse Coopers (Pwc), Howard Humphreys, Somaliland Development Fund and UNEP among others. The Lead Consultant is registered and licensed by NEMA and the Kenya Institute of Environmental Assessors and Auditors to undertake SEA, ESIA and Environmental Audits. He has worked in other countries including Somaliland and served international agencies such as UNEP and UN-IAEA.
