Nov 2014 - The inaugural Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA), met under the theme ‘The next decade of land policy in Africa: ensuring agricultural development and inclusive growth,' and launched Investment Guiding Principles for large-scale land investments.
The principles note that economic benefits from large-scale agricultural investments are easily overestimated where impacts on ecosystems and smallholders are neglected, and urges member s to "require rigorous, holistic and independent environmental and social prior impact assessments" of large scale agricultural investments.
